Suki Medencevic was born in Derventa, Bosnia and Herzegovina. While in high school, he became interested in science and still photography. His research paper on the use of high frequency electric current in Kirlian’s Photography was published in Yugoslavia’s most prestigious scientific journal Galaksija. Suki’s real involvement in film started when he was accepted at The National Film School for Dramatic Arts, FDU, Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Suki continued his education at the renowned National Film School (FAMU), Prague, Czech Republic, where he earned a Master’s Degree with Honors in cinematography. Shortly thereafter, he came to the USA to continue his professional career. Since his first feature film shoot in 1994, Suki has been working steadily in film and TV productions. His work includes collaborations with: WB, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Disney Studios, Amazon, Apple, Pixar, ILM and many other independent production companies. As recognition for his artistic achievements, in 2010 Suki became a member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), the world’s most prestigious cinematographers’ organization. He is currently a chair of the ASC International Committee, responsible for the collaboration between the ASC and the global cinematographers’ community. For over a decade, Suki has been very active as an educator, conducting workshops, lectures, master classes and seminars at prestigious US and international educational institutions and societies. As recognition for his educational efforts, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor Honoris Causa) by Logos University. Suki’s work as a cinematographer has earned him a number of international awards, including a nomination for The Golden Frog at Camerimage, The International Film Festival of The Art of Cinematography, and “The Best Photography Award” at Mostra di Valencia International Film Festival in Spain. Suki is also a passionate stills photographer with several solo and group exhibits on his resume. He is also a passionate, active musician and plays multiple instruments including piano, accordion, saxophone, clarinet, guitar as well as an avid cook who enjoys his time in the kitchen.
